Sendmail Shares Insights from International Messaging Infrastructure Summit

Customers, Partners and Analysts Gathered to Discuss Where the Cloud Fits in the Typical Complex Messaging Infrastructure of Large Global Enterprises

Emeryville, Calif., October 25, 2011 — Sendmail, Inc., the leading provider of message processing appliances and applications for enterprise messaging infrastructures, announced the successful conclusion of its annual International Messaging Infrastructure Summit and is sharing insights into key takeaways from the conference. The information-packed and educational two-day summit took place in Las Vegas, NV on October 13th and 14th with this year’s event focused on, “Is Cloud in Your 2012 Forecast?”

Numerous Sendmail customers presented on various topics ranging from the challenges of moving email to the cloud, best practices on conducting a messaging architecture review before embarking on an email infrastructure modernization project, virtualizing an email backbone to how companies can use applications from the Sentrion Application Store to add further value to their Sentrion-based email infrastructure. Lively and interactive discussions also took place around current messaging infrastructure trends, sparked by a presentation from Internet Research Group (IRG), a Los Altos, Calif.-based research organization, which revealed the results of its enterprise messaging infrastructure survey. Sendmail also gathered valuable feedback directly from customers on new product feature requests and applications from the Sentrion Application Store that customers believe will add further value to their infrastructure.

“The Summit brought together key Sendmail customers and partners from around the world and the insights and collaboration from these enterprises on the critical role an email backbone plays into their cloud and messaging initiatives was invaluable,” said Michael Osterman, president, Osterman Research, Inc. “The customer presentations were impressive, and my key takeaway was gaining a better understanding of why enterprises require an email backbone — even when moving end-user email to the cloud. It also became very clear why Sendmail has a unique industry position, with the proof being such an impressive list of enterprise customers.”

Presentations and News Highlights:

Sendmail made a number of announcements to open the 2011 Messaging Infrastructure Summit including the new Sentrion C3E product, a new encryption partnership with Totemo, Sentrion being placed on the NIST In-Process Status for Stringent FIPS 140-2 Government Security Certification, an expanding relationship with VMware Zimbra and a new Enterprise Anti-spam option on the Sentrion Application Store. Sendmail also reviewed how email-enabled and machine generating applications are impacting today’s messaging infrastructures and concluded by introducing all of the partners that were showcasing their Sentrion applications at the Partner Fair that evening.

Customer Presentations Included:

  • Microsoft Online in the Cloud with Sentrion MP
  • Google Apps and Postini in the Cloud with Sentrion On-premise Infrastructure
  • Cloud Email — Fact, Fiction, and Reality

“Building on the success of last year’s summit, we brought more depth to this year’s event, bringing together EMEA, Japan and the Americas for customers and partners to learn from one another by sharing their own experiences around their plans for email in the cloud and how the Sentrion Message Processing Platform plays a critical role in consolidating, simplifying and reducing the costs of their mission critical email messaging infrastructures,” said Glen D. Vondrick, president and chief operating officer, Sendmail. “Sendmail’s enterprise customers make this event truly unique in the industry and we are already looking forward to hosting events next year in Europe, Japan, and in the United States.”

Feedback Collected Throughout the Summit From Participants Included:

  • “I found the customer success story presentations about their messaging challenges, their decision processes, and tips from experience to be invaluable knowledge to take back with me from the conference. I had expected this conference to be a big sales pitch by Sendmail but it was the complete opposite.” — Large Telecommunications Provider
  • “The Partner Fair featuring many of the great add-on applications from the Sentrion Application Store was a fantastic way to learn about all the creative things we can do with our email backbone. There’s nothing like this in the industry and I hope next year there is more time allotted to check them all out.” — Leading Financial Services Firm
  • “This truly was a conference about infrastructure and the impact others are experiencing in regards to various approaches to messaging in the cloud. I especially enjoyed hearing how other large organizations are weighting the cost justifications and trade-offs in providing email as a service utility to the users.” — Major Enterprise Software Company
  • “Hats off to Sendmail for organizing this event. I hope they continue putting these on as it provides the industry with the only true gathering of messaging professionals without vendor controlled commercialization.” — Global Energy Company
  • “I’m sharing the customer presentations with others on the IT team as a benchmark ideal to educate others internally about how much more we can do to simplify, consolidate, and modernize our messaging infrastructure like others are doing. I don’t think our executives have any idea how much more is possible!” — Major Biotech Company
