Sendmail Boasts Record-Setting Revenues In Fourth Quarter & Fiscal Year 2009
Sentrion Message Processor Sales Dominant in Global Financial Services Enterprises

Emeryville, Calif., February 23, 2010 — Sendmail, Inc., the leading provider of reliable and secure email and messaging infrastructures, today announced record results for the fourth quarter and fiscal year 2009, ending January 31, 2010. Following the success of 2008, another record-breaking year, the Company continued its momentum by attaining record sales revenue growth in the Americas, and in the Asia Pacific Region led by Japan. The Company closed its fiscal year boasting a total unit sales increase of the Sendmail Sentrion® Message Processor install-base by 80%, worldwide.

Sendmail’s growth during the year was fueled by the Company’s continuous product innovation and focus on new customer acquisitions, particularly within the global financial services industry. Sentrion enterprise customers now include seven of the top ten largest international banks and four of the five largest U.S. banks. During 2009, Sendmail acquired a total of 15 new Fortune 1000, and 23 new Global 2000 customers.

“In 2009, the Company experienced tremendous momentum throughout all areas of our business and we’re glad to have expanded our capacity by opening an R&D office in Silicon Valley to accommodate hiring of engineering staff to meet market demand,” said Donald J. Massaro, president and CEO of Sendmail. “In the midst of prolonged economic uncertainty, Sendmail has continued to grow and demonstrate its success as a market leader. We believe much of our success today is driven by the strategy we launched three years ago to help enterprises replace costly, stand-alone, single-purpose, point solutions and modernize their core messaging infrastructures with a single message processing platform. Our strong value proposition has resonated well with many cost-conscious IT organizations looking for a solution to simplify all their enterprise messaging needs while saving money and reducing operating expenses.”

Record Sales Growth
During 2009, Sendmail boasted the following record-setting sales achievements:

  • Record fourth quarter - sales increased 50% over previous year.
  • Total Sentrion units - increased install-base by 80% worldwide.
  • Americas region - grew by 30% with several large enterprises modernizing their messaging infrastructures with Sentrion.
  • Record competitive displacements of point solutions from Cisco/IronPort, Symantec, Proofpoint, Secure Computing and Trend Micro, with Sendmail Sentrion Applications.

New Sentrion Customer Highlights
The success of Sendmail’s Messaging Architecture Review program helped Sendmail achieve record-setting sales and revenue growth in 2009. During the year, Sendmail’s expert team of email architects conducted over 250 comprehensive messaging architecture reviews with Global 1000 companies providing in-depth analysis detailing ways for enterprises to reduce operating expenses and increase efficiencies for mission-critical email. Among the list of Fortune 1000 and Global 2000 enterprise companies choosing to modernize their messaging infrastructure with Sentrion Message Processor solutions in 2009 after conducting a no-cost Messaging Architecture Review were:

  • Two of the largest U.S. banks, with a combined total of 500,000 employees (acquired through multiple acquisitions), deployed Sendmail’s Sentrion hard and virtual appliances to integrate multiple enterprise-wide messaging backbones with single directories and centralized policy management.
  • Another global financial services firm, with over 220,000 employees, reduced the number of physical hardware/software servers required to manage its complex infrastructure from 57 down to 23 by moving to Sentrion Message Processor appliances.
  • A private, billion-dollar investment management company created a new sophisticated SMTP messaging backbone with a Sentrion MP re-architecture and paid for it through the savings it found by eliminating special-purpose products for Anti-spam filtering by shifting to Sendmail’s Enterprise Anti-spam as an application to the core Sentrion infrastructure.
  • Two of the largest Canadian banks each modernized their internal message routing layers with multiple Sentrion appliances and implemented centralized policy-based message processing to support applications for compliance and high-volume outbound mail marketing.
  • One of the world’s largest telecom providers, serving over 50 million customers and more than 60,000 employees, modernized its messaging infrastructure with the latest 4.0 release of Sentrion.
  • Two of Europe’s largest telecom providers, serving over 25 million mobile and broadband subscribers combined, each migrated from older software and aging hardware servers to new Sentrion Message Processors to interconnect to other mobile operators and exchange multimedia message content sent from mobile subscribers.

One of the world’s largest technology software companies virtualized its core messaging infrastructure with Sentrion MPV, moved its commoditized Anti-spam filtering to SaaS (software-as-a-service) cloud services, and cost-justified the entire project in the first year from savings as a result of reduced operating expenses. “IT cost-cutting initiatives are a major focus for enterprise organizations in every industry today. For enterprises considering their approach to managing their email messaging infrastructures, the key is finding simple solutions that will increase email efficiencies, reduce operating expenses and create opportunities for a high return on investment,” said Michael Osterman, president of Osterman Research. “Sendmail’s approach to modernizing messaging infrastructures fits well with today’s enterprise IT goals by providing companies with a single messaging platform for all their enterprise messaging requirements and eliminating their need for separate and costly point solutions.”

Continued Innovation
Throughout 2009, Sendmail continued its tradition of introducing innovative new solutions that help enterprises reduce expenses associated with their messaging infrastructure without compromising the security of their organizations. Powered by the latest advances in cloud computing, virtualization and SaaS, Sendmail’s product innovation highlights in 2009 include:

  • The introduction of Sendmail Sentrion Cloud Services™ which provides enterprises with a cost-effective SaaS solution to filter inbound emails for spam and viruses before they are managed and regulated by the on-premises messaging infrastructure.
  • The release of Sentrion MPE 4.0, the foundation for Sendmail’s high-performance Message Processors that are available in virtual appliance (Sentrion MPV™), hard appliance (Sentrion MP™), blade server (Sentrion MPQ™), and as a SaaS solution (Sentrion Cloud Services™).
  • Sentrion Virtual Message Processor (MPV) achieved VMware Ready Certified status after passing extensive certification testing and meeting strict criteria defined by VMware.
  • The unveiling of the new Sentrion Application Store, the industry’s first customizable email architecture solution that enables enterprises to select messaging applications of their choice as add-on options for the Sentrion infrastructure.

Silicon Valley Office Expansion
To accommodate hiring of additional software engineers, Sendmail opened a new Silicon Valley satellite office in Mountain View, CA to complement its corporate headquarters in Emeryville, CA.
