"Despite highly publicized data leaks, companies struggle to gauge what their risk exposure is.

Only a formal assessment of messaging networks can determine the risks an organization faces."

"The New Sendmail" Announces Two New Message Processors:
A VMware-based Virtual Appliance (MPV) and a Quantum Message Processor (MPQ)
High-Performance Message Security Solutions Showcased at RSA Conference

EMERYVILLE, CA., April 7, 2008 — Sendmail, Inc., a leading provider of secure message processing solutions, today announced the release of two new appliances. The Sentrion MPV is a VMware-based virtual appliance designed for customers who wish to realize higher server utilization rates and support green data center initiatives. The Sentrion MPQ is a Quantum Message Processor, running on a blade server, featuring up to sixteen times (16x) the I/O performance of existing Sentrion machines. The two new appliance formats join the existing Sentrion 301 and 302 Message Processors, giving customers unparalleled flexibility to deploy solutions that precisely match their workload and infrastructure needs. Sendmail will showcase and highlight these solutions at the RSA Conference, occurring today through April 10, at booth number 1151 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco.

"Today’s Sentrion announcements provide our growing customer base with a choice of appliance formats that is unmatched in the industry," said Donald J. Massaro, president and chief executive officer of Sendmail. "For those looking to reduce total cost of ownership and address green data center initiatives, the virtualized appliance is the ideal choice. For enterprises needing raw performance and tremendous scalability, the Quantum Message Processor is the way to go. Our customers have been asking for these options in order to tune their messaging security solutions for a variety of real-world conditions."

The new virtual appliance, or Sentrion MPV, is based on VMware and allows customers to reduce costs through server and application consolidation. By reducing the number of servers through virtualization, customers realize direct cost savings in hardware, floor space, and power and cooling. As a result, both capital expenses and ongoing operational expenses are decreased, which are key drivers in today’s data centers.

About the Sentrion MPQ
The new Quantum Message Processor, or Sentrion MPQ, is being introduced on the Dell blade server and offers the highest performance in the industry today. The chassis can be configured with up to 16 blades, each blade equivalent to the current Sentrion MP 302, which has the ability to process 2.5 million inbound or 250,000 outbound messages per hour. Fully configured, the MPQ can process up to 40 million inbound messages per hour or 4 million outbound. The Sentrion MPQ offers large enterprises unmatched processing power and scalability in a single box, providing space and cost advantages over existing hardware configurations.

Also at RSA, Sendmail is announcing the release of MPE 3.1, the latest version of its Message Processing Engine. Serving as the foundation for all four of the company’s appliances (the previously announced MP 301 and MP 302, as well as the new MPV and MPQ), MPE 3.1 provides customers with significantly improved features and functionality for bi-directional message routing, delivery and threat protection. The engine’s new enhancements include enterprise spam filtering, additional outbound data protection features, domain-based reputation intelligence, and support for additional messaging protocols, including HTTP, webmail, FTP and instant messaging.

"The Sentrion MPE 3.1 helps solve one of the largest problems for Fortune 1000 and Global 500 enterprises: how to keep confidential information from leaking outside the network and being delivered into the wrong hands," said Nick Filippi, Sentrion Product Manager at Sendmail. "By applying our powerful policy engine to multiple types of communication channels, customers can ensure they comply with an expanding list of privacy-related, federal and internal security policies and regulations."

"Large enterprise customers are experiencing continued increases in the amount of incoming email laden with spam and viruses," said Brian Burke, Director, Secure Content and Threat Management for IDC. "But incoming messaging is only part of the problem. Today, information leaving the company through a variety of messaging channels is just as important, if not more so. By combining inbound and outbound threat protection in a single appliance, in both hard and virtual formats, Sendmail is giving customers tremendous choice in solving these critical problems."

About the Sentrion MPE 3.1

The Sentrion MPE Version 3.1 release offers several enhancements to the current product – the Sentrion MPE Version 3.0, including features to increase anti-spam effectiveness and end-user functionality. Additionally, the MPE 3.1 provides further support for outbound data leak prevention through document fingerprinting that allows users to detect and protect whole and partial matches to sensitive content, including intellectual property, legal, financial and other confidential files. The MPE 3.1 also features the ability to scan multiple protocols beyond SMTP, and allows organizations to monitor and report on HTTP Posts, Webmail, FTP and IM communications for sensitive information leaving the network.
