EMERYVILLE, Calif. — November 01, 2007 — Sendmail, Inc., and the Computer History Museum (CHM), home to the world's largest and most significant collection of computing-related artifacts and information age stories, today announced that Donald J. Massaro has been appointed to the Museum's board of trustees. Massaro is currently the president and CEO of Sendmail, Inc., the leading provider of policy-centric solutions for securing and managing business communications. A 30+ year technology industry veteran, Massaro has successfully built and managed a number of Silicon Valley companies, two of which were acquired by Xerox and IBM respectively. While at Xerox, he helped to introduce a number of technologies that have become industry standards today.
"As both a Silicon Valley pioneer, and an industry leader today, Don brings an incredible wealth of knowledge, experience and relationships to our Board of Trustees," said John Toole, Executive Director & CEO, Computer History Museum. "From his experience in the early days as a founder and CEO of Shugart, through his current work in messaging security at Sendmail, Don has a deep understanding of technology that will lend unique and important perspective to the Museum as we continue to expand its programs to preserve and present the history of computing, and its impact on the human experience."
Prior to Sendmail, Massaro held the position of CEO and co-founder at Reconnex Corporation, a provider of content-monitoring security appliances. He began his career at Shugart Associates as founder and CEO. Xerox acquired Shugart Associates and in 1979 appointed Massaro president of the Office Products Division. As head of the Office Products Division (XOPD), he created a business unit to develop and market products based on the technologies developed at Xerox's famed Palo Alto Research Center (PARC). In 1981 XOPD announced Ethernet and the Star Information System that incorporated and introduced the world to a number of office technologies that have become standards: Ethernet, the Iconic Desktop, Client-Server Architecture, Electronic Printing, etc.
After Xerox, Massaro was a founder and CEO of Metaphor Computer Systems, which was acquired by IBM in 1991. He has also held CEO positions at Silicon Gaming (SGIC), MainStreet Networks and Array Networks.

Massaro holds a Bachelor of Science degree in aeronautical engineering from the University of Notre Dame and received a Master of Science degree in mechanical engineering from Northwestern University. In addition, Massaro was a PhD engineering candidate at the University of California at Berkeley.
