User Interface Design Engineer — Emeryville, CA

Job Description

The User Interface Design Engineer will simplify the user experience, maintain consistency, and improve the look and feel of Sendmail products. This position requires a strong background in user interface design and prototyping. You will work with product managers, software engineers, and QA engineers to design highly usable products and adhere to Sendmail's commitment to the best possible user experience. Candidate must have proven experience building effective UI components, conducting usability studies, and incorporating feedback at both the interface and process level.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with product managers and software engineers to provide guidelines on UI design for Sendmail products and to build mockups and prototypes of HTML and CSS templates to deliver to developers for coding
  • Working with internal staff or external customers to gather usability requirements and document use cases
  • Perform user, task, and workflow analysis
  • Identifying enhancements to current UI and creating innovative solutions that improve the user experience based on current design techniques
  • Producing UI designs and features that maintain consistency within the UI
  • Ensure the UI design is flexible, extendable, and maintainable
  • Assist with the creative aspects of UI component development

Requirements

  • In-depth knowledge of and demonstrated experience in usability studies and GUI design
  • Minimum of 3 years hands-on experience in user interface design for enterprise software
  • Expert HTML and CSS skills.
  • JavaScript is always helpful
  • Must have a strong visual design sense
  • Ability to understand complex business processes, interaction design, information design, and typical user-behaviors
  • Must be detail oriented, organized, possess strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Bachelor/Master degree in HCI, Design, Computer Science or related field preferred
  • Knowledge of current UI design techniques
