Technical Publications Lead
Position Description
Sendmail Inc. is looking for a Technical Writer who is ready to take the next step and move into a challenging technical lead role. As the Technical Publications Lead, you will provide guidance and advise the Product Development process from a technical documentation perspective. We are looking for someone who can help plan documentation team projects, tasks, and deliverables. We are looking for a self-starter, someone with a highly active mindset who can research, synthesize, and simplify information from technical documents, interviews with subject matter experts, and hands-on experimentation with application functionality to create useable and coherent end-user documentation.
Responsibilities
- Define and produce original product documentation as required by our market.
- Migrate User Documentation from Framemaker source files to MediaWiki.
- Convert content such as text, tables, and images to rich content MediaWiki syntax.
- Help define and moderate change control processes for collaborative online documentation.
- Integrate and manage MediaWiki integration into product’s online help offering for customer usage.
- Work closely with software development, product management, quality assurance, and technical support to plan and create the documentation, ensuring that the product documentation deliverables meet both quality goals and release schedules.
- Improve Technical Publication efficiency and quality by refining the process and leveraging industry tools and technologies.
- Produce documentation on time in an Agile environment.
- Work with the Development and Quality Assurance team to resolve issues or bugs related to customer facing documentation.
- Serve as end-user advocate, assessing their needs to provide excellent technical documentation.
Required Skills and Experience
- 3 years of technical writing experience in enterprise class software.
- Experience producing SDK/API Documentation.
- Strong knowledge of Acrobat, SGML, XML, DITA, and single-sourcing.
- Experience using Wiki platforms and other collaborative tools to manage and maintain user documentation.
- Skilled at using authoring tools: FrameMaker, RoboHelp, and editors.
- Experience creating print documentation, collaborative documentation, and help systems.
- Skilled at creating graphics and diagrams.
- Aptitude to learn software and tools quickly.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Strong interviewing and investigation skills.
- Strong organizational skills with a persistent, unwavering ability to follow through.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient in English grammar, usage, mechanics, and composition.
- BA/BS degree in Computer Science, Technical Communications, or a related field.
