Sales Engineer — Any Major US City

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Reports To: Sales Engineering Manager
Department: Field Services

The Sales Engineer works closely with the Sales Team to manage the technical strategy of the sales cycle in order to achieve revenue goals within the assigned territory. The position is a front-line customer contact role requiring the highest levels of technical capabilities, sales savvy and people skills.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Sales Team to create and manage the technical strategy for opportunities in support of revenue goals
  • Effective delivery of Sendmail's value proposition to prospects via technical presentations, product demonstrations and written or verbal communications
  • Respond to prospects' technical needs and objections in a timely manner
  • Manage evaluations and proof-of-concept engagements, including all technical tasks such as requirements gathering, setting objective evaluation goals, pre-installation preparation, product installation and support
  • Design software solutions for sales prospects using real world messaging and security experience
  • Prepare and facilitate approval of statements-of-work for professional services engagements
  • Communicate product feedback to Product Marketing and Professional Services organizations within Sendmail

Requirements

  • Background in messaging, security or multi-protocol content monitoring a must (Open source or commercial Sendmail experience a plus)
  • At least 3 years technical sales engineering experience in a software environment.
  • Working familiarity with UNIX, Linux, Windows NT system administration, LDAP server administration, TCP/IP networking, and client/server concepts. (Network topology/configuration or Microsoft Exchange administration experience is a plus)
  • Demonstrated comfort working directly with customers in the sales and account management process
  • Possession of strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Top notch presentation skills (in person and via web and video conferencing tools)
  • Team player with very good interpersonal skills and a track record of working closely with colleagues to achieve goals
  • Availability to travel (50%+)
