Messaging Architect - West Coast or Emeryville, CA
Job Description
Our technical services group helps Sendmail prospects and customers plan for, install, configure, and operate our products on their networks. Our customers run some of the biggest networks in the world, and our technical services group helps to keep them up and running.
We are recruiting a messaging architect. The messaging architect works closely with the sales team to manage the technical strategy of the sales cycle in order to achieve revenue goals within the assigned territory. The position is a front-line customer contact role requiring the highest levels of technical capabilities, sales savvy and people skills.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Effective delivery of Sendmail’s value proposition to prospects via technical presentations, product demonstrations in written or verbal communications
- Respond to prospects’ technical needs and objections in a timely manner
- Manage service delivery, including all technical tasks such as requirements gathering, messaging infrastructure design, pre-installation preparation, product installation and configuration
- Design software solutions for sales prospects using real world messaging and security best practice experience
- Configure Sendmail products and help accounts with on-site architectural reviews and network planning and design sessions, to be sure that their systems will work properly
- Prepare and facilitate accurate scoping of statements-of-work for service engagements
- Communicate product feedback to Product Marketing
Requirements
- Minimum four years’ experience in a senior systems administration or systems engineering/architecture position with demonstrated design, implementation and troubleshooting skills. Specific, in depth knowledge of how to configure Sendmail MTA (opensource or commercial.)
- Strong technical ability in UNIX system and network administration on multiple platforms e.g. Linux, Sun/Solaris, BSD, etc.
- Solid understanding of networking, Internet and electronic mail concepts and solutions including mail addressing, delivery systems, Directories (AD, Open LDAP), DNS, firewall/security concepts, configuration design, maintenance, and administration.
- Demonstrated comfort working directly with customers in the delivery, sales and account management process
Additional Experience
- Self-starter, customer focused, team player BA/BS degree in Computer Science/Electrical Engineering or the equivalent in work experience.
- Creative and resourceful
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability independently represent the company to customers.
- Outstanding project management skills, especially managing multiple concurrent projects
- Outstanding analytical and problem solving skills
- Experience with Lotus Domino and/or MS Exchange a plus
- Top notch presentation skills (in person and via web and video conferencing tools)
- Team player with very good interpersonal skills and a track record of working closely with colleagues to achieve goals
- Availability to travel (25%+)
