Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Sendmail’s Engineering team is looking for a Manager of Software Development to recruit, manage, and lead a team of talented and experienced individuals building the Sentrion UI and middleware. Our Engineers own the technical ownership for design, quality, scalability, and implementation of major features in Sendmail's Sentrion Appliance. While not necessarily the technical leader, the manager is highly technical and uses this ability and knowledge to:

• Ensure that we ship a world-class product
• Manage risk and priorities in order to ship this world-class product on-time and with quality
• Develop and deploy software development processes
• Participate in Java development

The team size will grow to ten people, some of them remote. The Manager of Software Development will initially be both a first line manager and a member of an Engineering team that coordinates with Product Management and Operations to ensure the smooth and timely delivery of products. This team is responsible for the UI Framework which is the product's user interface and middleware.

Required Skills

• Ability to direct and participate in a team that will design and write reliable, robust, scalable, secure, efficient, and maintainable Java code
• Ability to initiate and implement change as well as a flexible, positive, can-do attitude
• Mastery of software development methodologies; experience with Extreme Programming, Scrum or Agile Software Development is a plus
• Strong project management skills including the ability to identify and mitigate non-obvious risks to the development process
• Ability to define achievable goals while nurturing innovation
• Absolute dedication to leading your team to meet or exceed its goals, while mentoring and coaching individuals
• Ability to collaborate effectively with Product Managers to craft a product vision
• Ability to coordinate the efforts of developers, QA, and technical publications
• Strong knowledge of the technologies and infrastructure surrounding secure enterprise messaging
• Hands-on experience with the internals of messaging and/or security products; knowledge of corporate messaging architecture and implementing large scale distributed applications are big plus
• Strong written, oral, and presentation skills

Experience

• Demonstrated leadership experience
• Prior experience in a similar role as a manager of software development of a mission critical enterprise product is an absolute must; at least 2 years as manager and total experience of 5 - 10 years in enterprise software
• B.S. in Computer Science or a related field, M.S. preferred
