RSA Conference 2009

I spent some time roaming the exposition aisles at last week’s RSA
Conference.  Much like last year, many of the companies on the show
floor were showing off identity, authentication/authorization, auditing,
and encryption products.  I did note a few things this year:

There were a higher percentage of companies now offering cloud services, whether it be targeted to the end user via Software as a Service (SaaS) offerings or for the Independent Software Vendor (ISV) via hosting services and a few rapid application development companies.

There was still some amount of trade show glitz that served to show how much money was spent on the booth instead of showing how well your product functions.  Speaking of which, many companies had booths which gave no clear indication of what the company or product did.  Perhaps that is meant to draw someone in to ask but I think it has the opposite effect.

Like most trade shows these days, attendance appeared to be down, and with it, the excitement level.  No doubt many could not get the budget to travel.  Luckily, if you missed it, you can still check
out the keynotes online at:

Finally, I took some time to catch up with Richard Steinnon at the on-site Demos on Demand studio, and gave him an overview of Sendmail – Starting with the evolution from our early open source days to where we are now and finished off with a sneak peek into where we believe things are headed.
